Branding for Credibility & Buy-In: South Ocean Air

The Mission

As the founders of South Ocean Air were preparing to pitch investors and to collect donations to manufacture more of their air capture machines, they realized they needed a professional online presence. They wanted a website that would effectively educate potential investors and donors about their mission, while boosting their credibility.

We worked together for brand identity design and website design. We also partnered with a copywriter to write the website copy.

The Process

The design process began with a brand strategy session to uncover the essence of the business. We discovered that sustainability and environmental preservation were very important to the founders of South Ocean Air. So I designed their branding to speak to those values.

A mood board was designed first that included the brand's color palette and overall visual direction. The mood board used green to represent nature and freshness. Blue was used to represent trustworthiness and professionalism. Images of industries and people who will benefit from the carbon removal machine were used. And finally an accent pattern of a light blue image of a wave was used to represent fresh, clean air.

Next, logos were designed. The logos were designed to incorporate symbols that represent fresh air and being environmentally conscious, such as leaves and waves.

A full brand style guide was also developed with these colors and the logo design.

Below, are the initial logo design concepts.

Lastly, a one-page website page design was created. The website was designed to show drive website visitors to either partner with South Ocean Air or to make a donation to invest in the company. Bold green call-to-action buttons were used to influence website visitors to act.

The client also had the idea to drive website visitors to a carbon footprint calculator so they could see how they're impacting the earth with their current carbon emissions. This was meant to show both investors and donors how South Ocean Air will help them personally.
